Site is Switched Over

Well I decided to put it in place. It looks just as nice as the old one and functions better so why not go through with it.

This is now a fully functioning wordpress site. Here are my latest thoughts. (It is a blog, right?)

Currently we’re using the blog as the front page. Might change, might not. That one needs some time.
Having trouble with the facebook share plugins. One looks better and loads faster, but it does not post a picture (thumbnail) over to facebook. The other plugin loads the thumbnail, but is slow and clunky here on this site.
For now its fast and slick.

This site has a plugin that I just finished that I’m calling ‘Show Scheduler’. Bill can log into wordpress. From his dashboard he has an interface to enter information about the clubs where he performs. If he has a show coming up at a club that he has in the database then it takes him just a few clicks to put it up on the site.

The plugin has two features that I think are cool. One is that it simply won’t show past show dates. When ever a browser pulls up Bill’s schedule page it will only show upcoming show dates.

Another is what I’m calling “stacking” and when it stacks it creates a run. So if Bill enters two shows that are at the same club two consecutive dates in a row the program will create a “run.”

The run will continue to have show dates and times added to it until it detects a different club, or more than 4 days separation in the dates. If the show dates are at the same club and within 4 days of each other they will automatically be bundled into a run.

This fixes the repeating problem that is inherent in these types of database driven content pages.

So Close to Finished

I have just a few more things to do to finish this site and make it Bull’s new web site right from his domain name. (At this point his old site is still at: http://www.bullschtick.com/ and this site is at: http://bullschtick.com/wp/ You still need the wp/ at the end).

No matter, I’ll have it switched over by tonight. There are a couple things I still need to do. For example I need to get a picture or a few pictures that will post over to facebook when someone uses the share buttons below. Right now only text seems to post over.

Posts are great for always having something new on the front of your site. The best posts are always short, about just one topic and maybe contain a picture or two.
